Footsteps of the Past: Honouring a Legacy
The American College recently marked a deeply meaningful moment in its alumni history with the visit of the family of Late Mr. P. K. Madhavan Pillai (BA Botany, 1925–27), a distinguished alumnus whose academic journey began nearly a century ago. The visit celebrated a legacy of scholarship, gratitude, and enduring connection to the institution.
During the visit, Mr. Pillai’s son, Dr. M. Aravind Babu, and grandson, Dr. Arun Babu, formally handed over a meticulously preserved hundred-year-old herbarium record to the College. The historic document was received by the Principal & Secretary, Dr. J. Paul Jayakar, on 04 December 2025, marking a significant addition to the College’s archival and academic heritage.
The herbarium stands as a testament to the rigorous botanical training and scholarly discipline fostered at The American College during the early twentieth century. Its preservation across generations reflects the profound respect the family holds for the institution that shaped their academic foundations.
This occasion symbolised more than the donation of an artefact—it represented the continuity of values, learning, and gratitude across generations. The American College gratefully acknowledges this contribution, which will be preserved as part of its institutional memory and serve as an inspiration for students, researchers, and alumni for years to come.
